Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) is a collaborative clinical and research alliance dedicated to advancing care of the diabetic foot and preventing amputations in North America and worldwide. With an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, research scientists and biomedical engineers, it is amongst the largest, most productive such teams in the world.  SALSA has a strong research portfolio focused in many unique areas studying cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for diabetes related lower extremity complications. These include:

1.     Wound Healing and Regeneration
2.     Vascular medicine and surgery
3.     Podiatric medicine and surgery
4.     Infections of the foot and ankle
5.     Prevention of diabetic foot complications
6.     Treatment of extremity dermatologic diseases
7.     Treatment of nerve damage and pain to the foot in people with diabetes
8.     Advanced wired and wireless "personal health networks"
9.     Convergence of medicine with consumer electronics and mobile health (mHealth)

This research unit has contributed hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and funded research proposals.  These contributions have led to numerous advances in the field, specifically advancing the Pathogenesis/Epidemiology of diabetic foot complications, screening, therapy and followup of vascular complications, prediction/prevention of diabetic foot wounds through biomechanical, thermometric and telemedical applications, assessment of advanced wound care/regenerative devices/dressings, classification of wounds/surgical Interventions and development/validation of risk stratification models.

If you are interested in potentially participating, feel free to contact SALSA's clinical research unit to see if you qualify and might benefit from projects in the program. If you do not have access to the Southwest USA, then we are more than happy to direct you to a clinical research unit in your part of the world. Our team actively participates with groups from all parts of the USA and more than 50 nations on 6 continents.
